This article is essential as the U.S. budget is up for a vote and includes several items that will adversely affect federal and postal workers. Republican congressional leaders support cuts that jeopardize workers' progress to maintain tax cuts for the wealthy. This budget proposal contains provisions that could harm workers and their families for at least the next 10 years. They plan to vote to accept everything in total.

There are several proposals for federal cost-savings that the APWU is firmly against, some of which were discussed during President Trump’s first term, including:
1. Raising the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) contribution rate;
2. Reducing or fully eliminating cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs);
3. Eliminating FERS supplemental retirement payments;
4. Reducing annuity calculations, basing it on the highest five years of pay (High-5) instead of the highest three (High-3);
5. Increasing Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) contributions.
